Purpose of the Society
The purpose of The International Society for Clinical Haemorheology is to advance and disseminate knowledge of the discipline of clinical haemorheology, and the application of this discipline to human welfare.
The society organizes conferences and workshops on all aspects of clinical haemorheology, establish committees to work on special topics related to clinical haemorheology, encourages scientist working in this area by award programs and facilitates the exchange of ideas and information between clinical and basic scientists.
The History of the Society
The International Society of Clinical Haemorheology was founded in 1993, during the First International Conference on Clinical Haemorheology in Vienna. The first President of The Society was Prof. Edzard Ernst. The first council members were Prof. Herbert J. Meiselman (Vice-President), Dr. Gerard B. Nash (Secretary) and Prof. Michael Boisseau (Treasurer).
The Second International Conference on Clinical Hemorheology was organized as a joint meeting with International Congress of Biorheology by Prof. Cokelet and Prof. Meiselman, in Big Sky, Montana, in 1995. During the Big Sky meeting, Prof. Kalman Toth was elected as the second President of the Society and Dr. Michael W. Rampling as the Secretary, while the other officers remained in their positions. Dr. Max Hardeman was elected as the Chairman of the International Liaison Committee.
In 1999 the second joint meeting of International Society of Biorheology and International Society for Clinical Hemorheology was organized in Pecs, Hungary, by Dr. Gerard Nash and Prof. Toth. The new council was composed of Prof. Oguz Baskurt, Prof. Lajos Bogar, Dr. J-F. Brun, Dr. Max Hardeman and Dr. Timothy Fisher.
The fourth International Conference on Clinical Hemorheology was organized in Antalya in 2003, again as a joint meeting with International Society of Biorheology. During the business meeting, the Constitution and Bylaws were modified slightly. The newly elected Council included Prof. Fulong Liao as the president elect, and Dr. Irina Tikhomirova as the member in addition to the previous council members.
