ISCH Vice President Herb Meiselman chaired the meeting. After introductory comments, he proposed two items for the agenda: (1) Location and timing of the next meeting(s) and whether or not they will be jointly held, (2) Possible negotiations on closer, more formal affiliation between the International Society of Clinical Hemorheology and the International Society of Biorheology.

Two proposals to host the next meeting had been put forward for venues at either Chongqing , China , or Antalya , Turkey .

Baskurt reviewed the latter after providing brochures. Antalya offers a great tourist attraction at a resort hotel with good conference facilities, etc. Estimates indicated expected costs. [Housing (full accommodation): US$40/d; Travel: Easy direct flights from many European cities, Istanbul or Ankara . Baskurt indicated that travel costs should be low. Registration Fee: Estimated at $200]. Questions followed on crime and on when the meeting could be organized. There should be no problem with safety at Antalya . The meeting could be organized for 2001 or 2002. It should be held in May (lower prices) or possibly September because of the heat.

Wu then presented the Chinese proposal. A video had been produced and made available for prior viewing. The meeting has the support of the Chinese Biophysical Society and Biomedical Engineering Society, but will be hosted by Chongqing University . Chongqing is a beautiful mountain city near Three Gorges. There are more than 2000 persons doing bio- and hemorheology in China . Costs were also discussed. [Housing: $70/d (video) with range of $35-140 (to be discounted 50%); $1500 (rough estimate from Europe and North America ), direct flights are available from Tokyo ; Registration Fee: $300 and $150 (for students)]. The meeting would be held in Spring or Fall of 2003 (May or September, not summer). Goldsmith suggested 2002 as still being an option. There was some discussion about who would run the meeting.

Final resolution was for the meeting to be held in 2002 and for the Chinese to provide additional information to be reviewed by a joint ISB and ISCH committee [ISB: Nash, Cokelet, Shiga and Goldsmith; ISCH: Meiselman, Toth, Rampling and Brun]. A decision will then be made to go ahead with China and then follow with Turkey (or vice versa).
